UP CM Adityanath instructs officials to check black fungus spread, launches welfare scheme for children who lost parents to COVID19

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also urged people to take preventive measures as much as possible.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, on June 5, launched a child welfare scheme to provide financial aid to the children who have lost their parents to COVID19. Also, in a high level meeting with the officials, he instructed them to check the spread of mucormycosis (better known as black fungus).

Manoj Rai, Director of Women and Child Welfare Department informed that so far 300 children have been identified to become the beneficiaries of the ‘Uttar Pradesh Mukhyamantri Bal Seva Yojana’ scheme.

Under this scheme, monthly financial assistance of Rs 4,000 will be given to a child’s guardian or caretaker till he or she attains adulthood, while those who do not have anyone to look after them will be sent to child protection homes.

The chief minister has also instructed the officials to ensure education for orphaned students above 18 years of age. “No child’s education should be interrupted due to financial reasons, ” he was quoted as saying in the press statement. Also, under the ‘Abhyudaya Yojana’ scheme of the state government, laptops and tablets will be provided to aid in the higher education of children who have lost parents to COVID.

Talking about the outbreak of black fungus, the chief minister stated that it should be ensured that the medications needed to treat the disease are available.

“Make sure adequate amounts of Amphotericin-B injection and two other tablets prescribed by experts are present in every district. Some cases of this fatal disease have been found among recovered COVID-19 patients. The Department of Health and Medical Education should ensure that every patient with black fungus receives appropriate treatment,” Adityanath told officials in a high-level meeting.

Patients who have recovered with COVID19, have been on steroids, received immuno-suppressive therapy, or were in the intensive care unit (ICU) for a long time, and those with uncontrolled diabetes are at high risk of suffering from Black Fungus.

In the meeting, the chief minister said that the state government is focusing on ensuring awareness and treatment of the black fungus infection. He also urged people to take preventive measures as much as possible. CM Adityanath recommended the use of masks while visiting dusty construction sites, wearing shoes, long trousers, long sleeve shirts, and gloves while handling soil (gardening), moss or manure.
