Corona curfew in Gujarat? Gujarat High Court asks for a 3-4 days curfew

As Gujarat reports a surge in coronavirus patients and deaths, the high court has asked the state government to impose a curfew for 3-4 days, and stop all political meetings and large gatherings.

In wake of the rising COVID19 numbers and deaths in the state, the Gujarat High Court has today asked the state government to impose a curfew which “may help”. The Gujarat High Court has asked to impose a three to four day curfew in Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara and Rajkot. The high court has also directed the government to stop any political meetings, rallies and large gatherings across the state.

Unconfirmed sources say that a high level government meeting is on to decide the imposition of the curfew. A total of 3,160 fresh COVID-19 cases and 15 deaths in 24 hours were reported in Gujarat yesterday. There are more than 16,000 active cases in the state currently.

Meanwhile, today morning, the Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government has already announced a night curfew from April 6 between 10 pm and 5 am (next morning), to be in force till April 30. Meanwhile, Maharashtra announced weekend lockdown and night curfew in the state from April 5. 

As India crosses 100,000 daily new COVID-19 cases a day, the highest since the beginning of the pandemic last year, several states have begun to take preventive measures to restrict the numbers. There was a record spike in cases and by yesterday, April 5, India  registered 96,580 fresh COVID-19 cases and 440 deaths.
