Here’s why the Government doesn’t want you to post your Covid-19 vaccination certificate on social media
The Ministry of Home Affairs has tweeted in this regard through the Cyber Dost Twitter account. It said the certificate contains personal information that could be exploited by scamsters to cheat you.

If you’ve among those who shared your Covid-19 vaccination certificate on social media sites, delete it before it causes any data breach. The certificate includes personal information about people, such as their name, age and gender. And, sharing this may leave your details open for misuse by cyber criminals.
In fact, the Union government has urged people not to share their Covid-19 vaccination certificate on social media. The government issues the Covid-19 vaccination certificate when the first or second dose of the vaccine is given.
In this context, a tweet about cybersecurity awareness was posted from the Ministry of Home Affairs’ Cyber Dost Twitter account.
“Beware of sharing vaccination certificates on social media as the vaccine certificate contains your name and other sensitive information,” the tweet warned. The tweet further stated that vaccination certificates should not be published on social media since fraudsters can use them to scam you.
Why do you require a vaccine certificate?
A certificate is issued following each dose of the vaccine. The Covid-19 vaccination certificate is available for download through the Arogya Setu App or the CoWin website. This document may be required for a number of reasons, including international travel.
The government’s warning is with reason as many firms — including Domino’s and Big Basket — have had their data breached in the recent past, and vital information of people has landed in the hands of scamsters.
