Cyclone Yaas: As western coast gathers itself from Tauktae debris, IMD forecasts another cyclonic storm in Bay of Bengal

According to IMD, a low pressure area is very likely to intensify gradually into a cyclonic storm and reach Odisha-West Bengal coasts around 26th May evening. Cyclone Yaas could be comparable to the last year's Cyclone Amphan, say weather experts.

At a time when the states along the western coast are still estimating the destruction caused by the Cyclone Tauktae, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has stated that another cyclonic storm is brewing in the Bay of Bengal and is likely to affect the states of West Bengal and Odisha.

“A low pressure area is very likely to form over North Andaman Sea and adjoining east-central bob around 22nd may, 2021. It is very likely to intensify gradually into a cyclonic storm during subsequent 72 hours. It is very likely to move northwestwards and reach Odisha – West Bengal coasts around 26th May evening,” a statement issued by IMD’s Regional Specialised Meteorological Centre-Tropical Cyclones (RSMC) has stated today.

Weather experts have stated that the upcoming destruction caused by Cyclone Yaas could be comparable to the last year’s Cyclone Amphan, which wreaked havoc in the Odisha as well as West Bengal.
