“There are 106 in critical care… We need immediately some oxygen so that bare minimum is met”: Maharaja Agrasen Hospital informs Delhi HC

Yesterday (April 23), while interacting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had stated that he fears that a major tragedy could happen due to shortage of oxygen for the COVID19 patients.

Earlier, Max Hospital Patparganj and Saroj Super Specialty Hospital, Rohini had moved the Delhi High Court and sought urgently critical supplies of medical oxygen.

The national capital’s Maharaja Agrasen Hospital has moved the Delhi High Court with a plea entailing the plight of the hospital management and the patients in grappling with the last dole of oxygen that is about to be exhausted in a few hours.

“There are 106 in critical care… We need immediately some oxygen so that bare minimum is met,” the hospital informed the court.

“We’re running two hospitals with 306 patients. We almost ran out of oxygen last night. We must thank Mr Mehra (Rahul Mehra, Delhi government’s counsel) but we will run out this afternoon. We are discharging patients. We have already discharged. We did beg, borrow in the streets,” said Alok Agarwal, the advocate representing the hospital.

Earlier, Max Hospital in Patparganj and Saroj Super Specialty Hospital in Rohini had moved the Delhi High Court and sought urgently critical supplies of medical oxygen.

“It is the same story everyday. What is the situation on supply front ,” the bench comprising of Justice Vipin Sanghi and Justice Rekha Palli asked the government during the proceedings.

“We fear big tragedy may happen due to lack of oxygen for patients, national plan needed to deal with situation (sic),” Kejriwal had said in the meeting chaired by PM Modi to review the COVID19 situation with chief ministers of high burden states.

Meanwhile, it is reported that at least 20 COVID19 patients admitted in the critical care unit of Jaipur Golden hospital in Delhi’s Rohini area died late Friday night as the oxygen pressure was low.

Also, 25 critically ill coronavirus patients who were on high-flow oxygen at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital died between Thursday and Friday (April 22-23) morning.
