India registers highest single-day COVID19 vaccination across all countries in the world

Yesterday, 4.3 million people in India were administered the COVID19 vaccine, the highest anywhere in the world. Cumulatively, 83 million vaccine doses have been administered in the country so far. The national recovery rate has also improved -- from 47.76% on May 31 last year to 92.48% as of today.

In India, more than 4.3 million vaccination doses were administered in the last 24 hours. This is the highest single day vaccination coverage by any country in the world.

On April 5 yesterday, 4,300,966 vaccine doses were given. Of which, 3,900,505 beneficiaries were vaccinated for the first dose and 400,461 beneficiaries for the second dose of the COVID19 vaccine.

As of today, April 6, cumulatively, 83 million (83,110,926) vaccine doses have been administered till 7 am.

Amid the rising cases, the country’s COVID19 recovery rate has also improved from 47.76 per cent on May 31 last year to 92.48 per cent as of today, April 6, this year. India’s cumulative recoveries stand at 11.7 million; 50,143 recoveries were registered in the last 24 hours.

However, the country’s daily new cases continue to rise; 96,982 new cases were registered in the last 24 hours. Yesterday, over 100,000 new COVID19 cases were registered, the highest daily cases ever since the start of the pandemic.

Eight states — Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat have shown a steep rise in the COVID19 daily new cases. These states account for 80 per cent of the new cases.

Maharashtra continues to report the highest daily new cases at 47,288. Yesterday, the state Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray wrote to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi “to further lower the age group eligible for vaccination to 25 years old to curb the intensity of the rising cases in the state.” At present, only people above 45 years are eligible for the corona vaccine.

Delhi, which is among the worst-hit states, has reported 3,548 cases in the last 24 hours. Starting today, the national capital territory of Delhi has been put under a night curfew till April 30. Today, in a tweet, Satyendar Jain, health minister, Delhi, confirmed the night curfew from 10 pm to 5 pm.

Yesterday, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, also wrote to the PM urging him to lift the age criterion for people getting inoculated. He also ordered that one-third vaccination centres in Delhi will function 24*7 from today.

Twelve States — Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Punjab, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala — are displaying an upward trajectory in daily new cases.

Moreover, 446 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours. Eight states account for 80.94 per cent of the new deaths. Maharashtra reported the highest casualties at 155. Punjab follows with 72 daily deaths.

Meanwhile, 13 States/Union Territories have not reported any COVID19 deaths in the last 24 hours. These are Odisha, Assam, Puducherry, Ladakh (UT), Daman & Diu & Dadra & Nagar Haveli, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, Lakshadweep, Mizoram, A&N Islands and Arunachal Pradesh.
