GC Impact: Charitable initiative India Cares promises help to underprivileged cricketer Jyoti Yadav

On January 1, Gaon Connection had reported on the plight of a Mirzapur-based 19-year-old fledgling cricketer who is the daughter of a daily wage labourer. Despite qualifying for a cricket tournament in Delhi, Jyoti wasn't sure if she can travel and participate in the event due to lack of money. India Cares has extended help to the young cricketer. Details here.

A couple of days after Gaon Connection reported on the plight of Jyoti Yadav, a 19-year-old cricketer who is unable to afford a cricket kit and her travel to participate in a T20 cricket tournament, an initiative named India Cares has assured her of help.

Yadav has cleared the Sponsorship Trophy trials for cricket which is organised by Delhi L’il Cricket League [DLCL] that falls under the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and her T20 match is scheduled for January 15.

Talking to Gaon Connection, a volunteer from India Cares who didn’t want to be named informed that the young cricketer will be provided the sporting gear and the cricket kit in Varanasi, which is almost 50 kilometres away from Yadav’s village.

“After we got to know about the plight of the cricketer after reading the report on Gaon Connection, we asked our promise bank [a bank which consists of people willing to help those in need] if they could help her. Luckily, one such person expressed interest in helping Jyoti and we are happy to help her,” the volunteer said.

“Tomorrow, on January 4, the cricketer will be allowed to choose the sporting gear she wants at a sports shop in Varanasi and the expenses will be covered by our support,” the volunteer added.
