Gaon Connection launches third edition of its Teacher Connection e-magazine. Check here.

As part of its longterm Teacher Connection project, Gaon Connection has launched the latest edition of the monthly e-magazine. The edition's cover story showcases rural teachers who double up as YouTubers. Details here.

Gaon Connection launched the third edition of its monthly e-magazine ‘Teacher Connection’ today, on May 31. This month’s edition is themed on the teachers from the rural hinterland who use YouTube to document their teaching methods and utilise the video streaming platform to reach an audience beyond the confines of their physical classrooms.

“As part of Teacher Connection, a longterm project by Gaon Connection launched earlier this year, we have come across many teachers from village schools who have their own YouTube channels. Science experiments, mathematical hacks, DIY activities, magic shows, street plays, and more — these rural teachers are leaving no stone unturned to spread education and knowledge digitally in remote parts of the country. The COVID-19 pandemic further encouraged many of these teachers to build their YouTube channels so that the digital divide between rural and urban children was bridged,” Nidhi Jamwal, the managing editor of Gaon Connection was quoted in the magazine’s notes from the editor.

“These rural educators, who are also YouTubers, work in the most challenging situations with minimal resources. But that has not stopped them from adopting modern means of imparting education. In fact the lack of resources has pushed them into innovating. Their YouTube channels are an example of that,”  she added.

Apart from the YouTuber teachers, which is this edition’s cover story, there are also stories and accounts of teachers from Jammu and Kashmir, Assam, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. The e-magazine celebrates the teachers who go beyond the call of their duty to ensure overall development of the students.

The e-magazine has stories both in Hindi and English and apart from honouring them, it also aims to communicate with the teaching professionals who are making sweeping changes in the education ecosystems in their areas.
