The Uttar Pradesh government on May 14, launched ‘Elderline’, which is an helpine service to address the grievances of senior citizens in the state.

The helpline, which can be reached after dialing 14567, is expected to be a vital support system in order to comfort the needy elderly during the ongoing COVID19 pandemic. A press statement issued by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath-led state government stated that the newly launched serivice receives as many as 80 to 90 actionable calls on a daily basis from various districts of Uttar Pradesh.

“In its efforts to realise the above objective even during such challenging times, according to the instructions issued by the Uttar Pradesh government, under the ELDERLINE project, all senior citizens in need are being provided complete support through the call centres which remain functional from Mornings 8 am onwards to 8 pm in the Evenings regularly,” the statement read.

In a bid to address the concerns and grievances of the people aged above 60 years of age, the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment had come up with the initiative to launch the helpline on January 26, 2020.

So far, other than Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu have launched the ‘Elderline’ service.

The ELDERLINE is a facility operationalised with the assistance of Tata Trusts and NSE foundation.
