Union Budget 2021: Rs 2.23 lakh crore for healthcare sector; Rs 35,000 crore for COVID-19 vaccines: FM Nirmala Sitharaman

Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced Rs 2.23 lakh crore for healthcare in Budget 2021-22. This is an increase of 137 per cent from last year. Rs 64,180 crore to be invested over six years to improve primary, secondary and tertiary healthcare.

While presenting the Budget 2021-22, the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced Rs 2.23 lakh crore as the total budget outlay for healthcare and wellness. “This is an increase of one hundred and thirty-seven per cent from last year,” said informed the Parliament.

Rs 64,180 crore will be invested over six years to improve primary, secondary and tertiary healthcare. This is in addition to the National Health Mission, said the finance minister.

Rs 35,000 crores are allocated for COVID-19 vaccines. The Finance Minister also said more COVID-19 vaccines are expected soon. “Fight against COVID continues in 2021. We are committed to provide further funds if required,” said Sitharaman.

Vaccines will be rolled out across the country. This will prevent over 50,000 child deaths annually, she added.

Sitharaman has also proposed Rs 2,217 crore outlay for 42 urban centers with more than one million population to tackle air pollution.
