UP to start COVID19 vaccination for people above 18 years in all 75 districts from June 1

The Uttar Pradesh government will start vaccinating people between 18 and 45 years of age from June 1. Vaccination of parents of children below 12 years will begin on a priority basis.

From June 1, everyone between the age group of 18 and 45 years can be inoculated in all 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh. Currently, this facility is available only in 23 districts of the state.  The Additional Chief Secretary of Health Amit Mohan Prasad announced this yesterday, May 28.

“The campaign for 18 plus is being extended to all the districts of the state from June 1. We have decided to inoculate at least 1,000 citizens every day in the less populated districts,” said Prasad in the press briefing yesterday.

Meanwhile, Navneet Sehgal, additional chief secretary, Information Department stated today that nearly 10 million people of ‘18+ and 45+ will be vaccinated in the state.’

India entered the third phase of its COVID19 vaccination campaign on May 1. Under this campaign, everyone above 18 years of age is eligible for the vaccination.

In Uttar Pradesh, vaccination for 18 to 45 age groups was started in 23 districts, of which the drive began in the seven districts of Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Prayagraj, Meerut and Bareilly, on May 1. 

On May 27, the state government announced that free vaccines will be given in Siddharth Nagar district to the 18 plus age group from June 1. Separate vaccination centres are being set up for the judicial class, government employees, teachers and media workers.

To intensify vaccination and to protect the children from the third wave, the government will also identify and vaccinate the parents of children below 12 years on a priority basis from June 1.

According to the official data, Uttar Pradesh has given around  17,355,300 doses so far, of which, 13,948,710 people have been administered the first dose while around 3,406,590 people have received their second jab.

Meanwhile, yesterday Uttar Pradesh, the country’s most populous state recorded 3,181 new COVID19 cases.
