Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath tests positive for COVID19; Akhilesh Yadav corona positive too

Chief Minister YogiAdityanath and the Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav have tested positive for COVID19. Yesterday, on April 13, Uttar Pradesh reported the highest-ever single-day spike of 18,021 coronavirus cases and 85 deaths.

COVID19 cases are rising sharply in Uttar Pradesh, India’s most populous state.

A day after coming in contact with the state officials who later tested positive for COVID19, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stated that he has also been infected with the coronavirus.

“After experiencing initial symptoms, I got tested for COVID and my report states that I have tested positive. I am under self-isolation and have been following the doctors’ advice. I am doing all the official work virtually,” the Chief Minister tweeted in Hindi. 

Adityanath had received his first dose of coronavirus vaccine in Lucknow earlier this month.

Yesterday with three people in the chief minister’s office testing positive for coronavirus over the past three days, Adityanath had gone into self-isolation, and has now himself tested positive for the virus.

Also, Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav tested positive for COVID-19 today. In a tweet in Hindi today, Yadav said, “My corona test report has come positive. I have isolated myself and started treatment at home itself. People who have come in contact with me in the past few days should get themselves tested. They are requested to stay in isolation for some days.”

Yadav had recently visited Haridwar where the Kumbh Mela is being held and met various religious leaders, including Akhara Parishad chairman Mahant Narendra Giri who had tested positive for COVID-19 earlier.

Meanwhile, corona cases are rising sharply in Uttar Pradesh, India’s most populous state. Yesterday, on April 13, reported the highest-ever single-day spike of 18,021 coronavirus cases and 85 deaths, a senior official said. With this, the state”s infection tally stands at 723,582 and the death toll at 9,309.

The state”s previous biggest single-day jump of 15,353 cases was recorded on April 11.

“In the past 24 hours, 18,021 fresh cases were reported while 3,474 people were discharged during this period. There are 95,980 active cases while 6,18,293 were treated and discharged. The state has reported a total of 9,309 deaths since the start of the pandemic,” Additional Chief Secretary of Health Amit Mohan Prasad told reporters.

In view of the rising corona numbers, Adityanath yesterday directed concerned authorities to ensure all the facilities to the migrant labourers returning to the state.

Participating in a virtual meeting to take stock of the current COVID situation in the state, the chief minister directed Team 11 officials to set up quarantine centres in all those districts of the state that are receiving  migrant workers, at the earliest. 

He has also instructed the officials to make proper arrangements for corona testing and quarantining of migrant workers, as well as their food, reads an official press statement.  

Meanwhile, India registered the highest-single day spike in new COVID19 cases with 184,372 coronavirus infections reported in the country yesterday, April 13.

Over 1,000 deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours. This is the highest daily death count in nearly six months. This data was shared by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare on April 14.
