Uttar Pradesh: CM Yogi Adityanath Directs Officials to Expedite Digital Crop Survey

The rational behind the survey exercise is to provide data for enabling support for various agricultural activities such as assessing total area under cultivation, damage from natural calamities and disease attacks and agro-met services across the country.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has asked the concerned officials to expedite the digital crop survey which was undertaken on the directions by the Union government in August, this year. So far, the survey has been completed in 45 districts.

A press statement issued by the state government on October 9 mentioned that 99 per cent of the survey has been completed in 10 districts.

“The Chief Minister has expressed his dissatisfaction over the sluggish progress of the survey in some of the districts and has given strict directions to the District Magistrates to complete the survey expeditiously,” the statement mentioned.

By using mobile applications, employees of other departments, including Agriculture, are preparing records of crops grown in the state. The data obtained through this survey will help farmers plan their crops accordingly ultimately leading to better incomes for the cultivators.

“Each surveyor engaged in survey work has been given a target of 50 fields every day, which is being monitored by the District Magistrate. Over 17,500 surveyors have been deployed for this in Uttar Pradesh of which 8,000 are from the Revenue Department, 3,500 from the Agriculture Department and 6,000 are [from] Panchayat Raj. They have to conduct the digital crop survey of more than 1.19 crore farms in 27,182 revenue villages of the state. Out of these, the survey has been completed in 19,123 revenue villages,” the statement added.

In August, the Centre had launched digital crop survey in 12 states on a pilot basis from kharif (summer-sown) season of this year for better sowing data collection. The 12 states selected for the survey are Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Odisha, Assam and Telangana, the minister informed.
