Education On Wheels: Efforts Underway In Karnataka To Launch Mobile Vans & Ensure Education To All

A Bengaluru-based NGO is set to launch a mobile education van to help the economically backward communities access education facilities.

An education van is set to travel across diverse locations in Karnataka- rural, semi-rural, urban, semi-urban, slums, government schools and colleges.

Under its recently launched flagship program Education on Wheels, Aahwahan Foundation, a Bengaluru-based non-governmental organisation working to promote education in India since 2009, aims to reach the doorsteps of underprivileged students, beginning with the southern state of Karnataka.

Equipped with Science, Computer and Mathematics laboratories, along with a digital library, the initiative seeks to ensure that the students have access to expert teachers who would guide and teach them through an interactive panel.

Furthermore, it aims to facilitate the dissemination of digital content for the students of all classes. The organisation’s idea is to provide the students hands-on experience of what they learn in schools and enable underprivileged students prepare for exams like JEE, NEET, UPSC.

Additionally, it plans to provide vocational training, guidance and personality development handholding to such students.

To begin with, this mobile education van will cover areas in Bengaluru city, outskirts and nearby cities like Mangaluru, Hubbali, Hosakote, Hosur, Belgaum and Mysuru. The NGO, in its next phase plans to take the van across various states across the country.

Citing the dropout rates in the country as a concern, Aahwahan Foundation claims that this initiative will be beneficial to bring back the literacy rates and accelerate the GDP [Gross Domestic Product] growth. The organisation targets to reach at least 10,000 children this year, particularly aiming at girl students.

Besides this, the organisation is gearing up to launch a Laptop Bank initiative under which it shall lend laptops to children belonging to the economically backward communities to study using internet connectivity.
