Uttar Pradesh: ‘Shikshak Sankul’ Schools to be Modified into ‘Nipun Schools’ by December

The Director General of School Education, Vijay Kiran Anand, has released the agenda and monthly tasks for the upcoming ‘Shikshak Sankul’ meetings in October. The designated nodal officer for these meetings will be the academic resource person [ARP].

The Basic Education Department in Uttar Pradesh is on a mission to transform the schools under the Shikshak Sankul into NIPUN [National Initiative for Proficiency in Reading with Understanding and Numeracy] schools by December, this year. A Shikshak Sankul is a cluster of five teachers from government schools who have an added administrative responsibility to oversee the functioning of the primary schools in their areas. The school in which these teachers teach are known as Shikshan Sankul schools.  

The department has set a specific agenda and monthly tasks for teacher group meetings for the month of October in order to transform this schools as NIPUN schools. The NIPUN schools are those where students in classes one to three are proficient in reading and numeracy.

ARP’s responsibilities include sharing the key points from the previous district-level meeting with all participants. Additionally, a digital teacher training video relevant to the respective month must be screened for all teachers, which should be followed by a discussion on the highlights of these meetings.

“Furthermore, teaching efforts, methods and interesting activities in relation to the plan of the previous meeting will be shared. The most important part will be the presentation on the academic strategy of Nipun Bharat Mission, in which the teaching plan for 2023-24 will be presented by the teachers in different groups (Class 1-3 and Class 4-8). All groups will get five minutes for the presentation,” a press statement issued by the state government on October 9, mentioned.

The statement added that a monthly task will be completed by the entire ‘Shikshak Sankul’ in October.

“They have to ensure the use of a five-point toolkit to make their school a ‘Nipun’ school by December 2023. The toolkit will focus on class allocation and division of work among teachers; use of guide guide-based teaching plan; assessment of students and remedial classes for them; community participation and contact with parents; as well as cordial relationship between teacher and student. This will have to be implemented on a priority basis,” it stated.

Also, all the teachers will be encouraged to login to the ‘Nipun Lakshya’ mobile application and assess each student in the month of October.  Teachers are encouraged to make use of the new ‘Nipun Samvad’ feature on the ‘Nipun Lakshya’ application to stay updated on departmental instructions and activities.
