In the wake of protests by the students from the Allahabad University against the recent fee hike, the public relations officer (PRO) has maintained that the decision to increase the fees was ‘in accordance with the consultations with all the stakeholders’.
Talking to Gaon Connection, Jaya Kapoor stated that the university has announced the hike after working on the decision for the last one year. “We involved, educated, made people aware and justified our point to every stakeholder of the university including professors, students, university staff, and parents about the fee hike. This decision is legally sanctioned and is in the best interests of the students. Also, it is a miniscule section of the students who are protesting. Our teachers give us feedback that students who attend class regularly have said that after this hike their fees was still lesser as compared to other universities,” she told Gaon Connection.
When asked about the incidents of attempted suicides on the university campus earlier today, the official said that these acts by students were unfortunate.
“The students who are coming to campus for their classes are getting disturbed by these protests. Protests are disrupting the environment of the campus and it is the matter of concern. It is the need of hour to increase the fees as it will lead to the betterment of the institution. If we taking this step after 100 years, it is only for the well being of our institution,” Kapoor added.
