The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that in order to safeguard the most vulnerable sections of the population such as the old, booster shots, once in every 12 months might be needed.
An internal document accessed by the British news agency Reuters shows that these annual booster shots will be needed as the new COVID19 variants such as delta plus are being reported.
It is important to mention that American vaccine manufacturers such as Moderna and Pfizer have been vocal about such boosters in order to ensure that vulnerable people maintain high levels of immunity.

“It does not say how these conclusions were reached, but shows that under the base scenario new variants would continue to emerge and vaccines would be regularly updated to meet these threats,” the Reuters report states.
According to estimates by the international drug alliance GAVI, so far 2.5 billion doses of COVID19 vaccines have been administered worldwide. But most of these vaccinations have been reported from the industrialised countries.
In poorer countries of Asia and Africa, some countries have not even vaccinated a per cent of their total population.
