As per the state health bulletin of the Delhi government issued today evening, the national capital territory has registered 19,489 coronavirus cases, the biggest ever single-day spike in COVID infections in the pandemic so far. Also, 141 deaths due to the virus have been recorded in the last 24 hours taking the total death toll due to COVID-19 to 11,793.
The positivity rate of COVID-19 in Delhi has increased to 19.69 per cent while the fatality rate is 1.47 per cent.
Yesterday, Delhi had recorded 16,699 new coronavirus cases and over 100 COVID19 deaths. Keeping in mind the rising corona cases, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced strict restrictions, including a weekend curfew and the closure of malls, gyms, spas and auditoriums.
There will be no in-house dining in restaurants and cinema halls will be allowed to operate with only 30 per cent capacity, Kejriwal said at a virtual press conference yesterday, April 15.
He also said essential services and weddings will not be affected during the weekend curfew and passes will be provided to those attending weddings.
