With 173,790 cases recorded yesterday, India reported a decline in the daily coronavirus infections, the lowest daily count since April 13, when 184,372 cases were recorded. This is the lowest number of new cases recorded in India in the last 45 days. Less than 200,000 daily new cases have been reported in the last two days.
The deaths due to the virus have also seen a drop in 24 hours with 3,617 people succumbing to the disease yesterday on May 28, as compared to 3,660 deaths reported the day before on May 27. This takes the total death toll in the country to 322,512.
The number of recoveries in the country is continuing to outnumber the new cases, for the 16th consecutive day. Over 284,600 recoveries were reported in the country yesterday. The recovery rate stands at 90.8 per cent.
The total active caseload stands at 2,228,724 as of today. In the last 24 hours there has been a net decline of 114,428 cases. On May 28, the active caseload was 2,343,152.
Yesterday, Tamil Nadu reported the highest daily spike with 31,079 fresh COVID cases. This was followed by Karnataka (22,823), Kerala (22,318), Maharashtra (20,740), and Andhra Pradesh (14,429). Uttar Pradesh, the country’s most populous state recorded 2,273 new cases. Only 1,141 new infections were reported in the national capital, Delhi.
As per the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 2,080,048 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours in the country. This data was shared by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare today, May 29.
Over three million vaccine doses were administered in the country yesterday taking the cumulative count of vaccination to 208 million. Yesterday, the Union Cabinet Minister Prakash Javadekar announced that India will vaccinate all by this December-end.
