Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Kalyan Singh passed away at the age of 89 in the state capital Lucknow after a prolonged illness. Singh was reportedly battling sepsis and multiple organ failure after he was put on dialysis due to a kidney condition.
The BJP veteran breathed his last at Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI) where he was admitted on July 4.

A three-day state mourning has been declared to condole the death of the BJP leader and his last rites will be performed in Narora (Bulanshahr district) on August 23, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath told reporters today. CM Adityanath also declared a holiday on August 23 in the honour of the deceased leader.
