Kerala has reported 31,445 COVID19 cases in the past 24 hours today on August 25. This is the highest single-day tally of cases in the state since May 26 when it had recorded 28,798 cases.
With 4,048 cases, Ernakulam district reported the highest number of new cases. It was followed by Thrissur (3,865), Kozhikode (3,680), Malappuram (3,502), Palakkad (2,562), Kollam (2,479), Kottayam (2,050), Kannur (1,930), Thiruvananthapuram (1,700), Idukki (1,116), Alappuzha (1,107), Pathanamthitta (1,008), Wayanad (962), and Kasaragod (619).
It is believed that the sudden spike in Kerala has come after the Onam festivities last week. The state was reporting less than 17,000 new daily cases over the past four days. However, yesterday, on August 24, the southern state reported 24,296 new cases, which have now jumped to 31,445 today.
Over 165,273 samples were tested over the past 24 hours in Kerala. The active caseload in the state stands at 170,292. Test positivity rate at 19.03 per cent. As per the data shared by the state health bulletin, 215 people have lost their lives to the virus today.
