Kerala has reported 29,322 COVID19 infections in the last 24 hours. According to the state’s latest health bulletin, Thrissur district reported the highest number of new cases — 3,530, followed by Ernakulam (3,435), Kozhikode (3,344), Kollam (2,957), Malappuram (2,736).
The state continues to report the largest share of India’s total daily infections. Yesterday, on September 2, 45,624 new COVID19 cases were reported in India of which Kerala accounted for 32,097 cases.
While the southern state is facing a surge of COVID cases, the Kerala Health Minister Veena George today (September 3) announced that Covishield vaccine stock is ‘completely’ over in at least six districts of the state. These are Kollam, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kozhikode and Kannur, she informed.
According to her, only 140,000 doses are left in the state’s vaccine reserve.
It is to be noted that 89.5 per cent of the total vaccine doses administered in Kerala are of Covishield. So far, 29 million doses have been administered in the state.
Besides, all districts in the state have limited stock of Covaxin, pointed out the health minister. “We have already requested the Centre to provide more doses of vaccine at the earliest,” George was quoted as saying.
