Amid loud protests from the opposition members, while presenting Union Budget 2021 in Parliament, the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the government was committed to the welfare of farmers. Over Rs 75,000 crore was paid to wheat farmers in 2020-21 and 43.36 lakh benefited from this. She also announced the total amount paid to paddy farmers surged to Rs 1.72 lakh crore in 2020-21.
As part of the Union Budget 2021-22, the Finance Minister has proposed an increase in agriculture credit target to Rs 16.5 lakh crore.
She said MSP procurement will continue at a steady pace.
Minister Sitharaman has also announced Rs 1,000 crore for tea workers in Assam and West Bengal.
