UP govt orders prompt compensation worth Rs 5,350 million for crop losses due to floods

In a bid to provide relief to the farmers affected by crop damage due to floods that caused destruction in almost 600 villages across 24 districts in Uttar Pradesh, the state government has ordered prompt compensation.

The state government’s press statement released on December 12 informed that the compensation will benefit as many as 1.5 million farmers.

“Following an assessment of crop losses, the government has pegged the crop loss in the state at around Rs 5,34,94,38,981. Working with full force for the interest of around 15,26,351 farmers, the state government has released the compensation to the respective district collectors who will distribute it among farmers through DBT (direct benefit transfer),” Additional Chief Secretary Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Manoj Kumar Singh was quoted.

The official informed that the state government has released an installment of Rs 63.16 crore (Rs 63,16,82,771) to be distributed as relief to over 182,731 farmers affected by the flood.

The press statement mentioned that earlier, the government had already released Rs 471.77 crores in installments to farmers benefitting more than 13.45 lakh farmers across the State, informed Singh.

Districts that were affected by floods in Uttar Pradesh include Sitapur, Bahraich, Balrampur, Prayagraj, Kaushambi, Pratapgarh, Pilibhit, Kheri, Fatehpur, Rae Bareli, Banda, Etawah, Agra, Auraiya, Azamgarh, Gorakhpur, Ballia, Bijnaur, Deoria, Maharajganj, Kushinagar, Siddhartha Nagar, Ayodhya, Gonda, Shravasti, Hardoi, Barabanki, Chandauli, Kanpur Dehat, Kannauj, Hamirpur, Amroha, Bulandsheher, Meerut, Bhadohi, Prayagraj, Aligarh, Kasganj and Muzzafarnagar.
