COVID19 second wave: Borders of Raipur district in Chhattisgarh to be sealed for 10 days

As Chhattisgarh registers record 9,921 cases in a day, 10-day lockdown in Raipur from April 9 to April 19.

Chhattisgarh recorded 9,921 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday. The worst-hit Raipur and Durg districts witnessed 2,821 and 1,838 new cases respectively.

Amid rising cases of COVID19 in the state, authorities in Chhattisgarh imposed a 10-day lockdown in the capital Raipur from April 9 to April 19.

“Keeping in mind the Covid-19 situation, Raipur district is being declared a containment zone from 6 pm on 9th April till 6 am on 19th April,” District Collector S Bharathi Dasan was quoted as saying by news agency ANI. “All the borders of the district will remain sealed during this period,” he added.

Yesterday’s numbers were registered as the highest single-day jump in the state till now where the total coronavirus cases’ tally stands at 368,269.

States like Punjab, Maharashtra, Delhi, Chandigarh have already enforced a night curfew. 

As per the latest data of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the country has crossed the threshold of 115,000 daily COVID-19 cases by reporting 115,736 new cases in the last 24 hours. Just a couple of days back, India had crossed the threshold of 100,000 daily cases. Coronavirus cases are rising rapidly as the country is facing a second COVID-19 wave.
