In its latest bulletin released at 4:30 pm today, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed that a cyclone named ‘Jawad’ has formed in the Bay of Bengal and it is expected to make a landfall on the Indian coast along the states of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.
“It is likely to move north-northwestwards, intensify further and reach west-central Bay of Bengal off north Andhra Pradesh – south Odisha coasts by tomorrow, the 4th December morning,” the IMD bulletin stated.
“Thereafter it is likely to recurve north-northeastwards and move along Odisha coast reaching near Puri around 5th December noon. Subsequently it is likely to continue to move north-northeastwards along coastal Odisha towards West Bengal coast,” it added.

The weather department has stated that the wind velocity of the cyclone is not expected to exceed 110 kilometres per hour (kmph).
Also, in its safety advisory in the wake of the cyclone, the IMD has asked the fishers in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha to fully suspend fishing operations for three days.
“Fishermen are advised not to venture into westcentral and adjoining southeast & eastcentral Bay of Bengal on 3rd December, over west-central & northwest Bay of Bengal and along & off north Andhra Pradesh – Odisha- West Bengal coasts during 3rd – 5 th December 2021,” it stated.
