Marking 100 days of the farmers’ stir today, the protestors announced that black flags will be hoisted at their homes and offices. Also, the Western Peripheral Highway (Kundli-Manesar-Palwal Highway) will be blocked for five hours.

The decision was announced by the Samyukt Kisan Morcha — the farmers’ organisation leading the protests at the Singhu border near the national capital.

The farmers have been protesting against the Central government’s controversial farm laws since November 26, last year. They also demand to include the guarantee of the minimum support price (MSP) in its farm legislation that was passed in September, last year.

The farmers’ leaders have announced that the Western Peripheral Highway would be blocked between 11 am to 4 pm on March 6.

Farmers’ leader Darshan Pal issued a statement informing that along with the blocking of the highway, protesters will hoist black flags at their houses and offices across the country and will wear a black band on their arms in their protest against the farm laws.

The farmers’ organisation, SKM, also announced that the Women’s Day which is observed on March 8 will be celebrated as Women Farmers’ Day across the country. Accordingly, the protests on that day would be led and managed by women on the Delhi’s state borders at Singhu, Tikri, Ghazipur and Shahjahanpur. The organisation has invited other women welfare organisations across the country to show solidarity with their protests and organise events to discuss the contribution of women farmers in the rural-agrarian economy of the country.

Apart from protests on March 6 and March 8, on an appeal by Central Trade Unions, similar protests will be organised on March 15 against the Central government’s privatisation drive. The Samyukt Kisan Morcha has announced its support for these protests.

In its meeting on March 2, the farmer organisation also decided to launch awareness campaigns against the BJP’s alleged anti-farmer and anti-poor policies in the election-bound states. The farmer leaders will tour such states like West Bengal in the awareness campaigns.

The organisation also stated that it will launch another campaign to raise its demand for MSP guarantee. In the MSP Dilaao Abhiyaan, the actual price at which the produce is being sold at various markets will be showcased in an attempt to prove the alleged false promises of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government. The campaign is expected to be launched in the southern states of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Gradually, more states from across the country will witness similar campaigns on the MSP issue.
