It’s been two years now. Saumya Gupta and Pawan Kumar, who both appeared for the Staff Selection Commission Combined Graduate Level examination, commonly known as SSC CGL, advertised on 4 May 2018, are still awaiting the results. The preliminary (tier-I) examination was held last June 4, after a gap of more than a year post its advertisement; followed by the tier II examination on September 11, and tier III on December 29 last year. Eight months on, candidates like Gupta and Kumar are still waiting for the results to be declared.

Thousands of disgruntled candidates in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttrakhand, etc., are demanding the government declare the results of older competitive examinations and complete the long pending recruitment processes before conducting new recruitment exams this year.

The irate candidates want to know why their results were being stalled while the government was going ahead with conducting entrance examinations for NEET-JEE (National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test-Joint Entrance Exams), CLAT (Combined Law Admission Test),  B.Ed (Bachelor of Education) and universities such as Jawaharlal Nehru University and Delhi University amidst the COVID-19.  They are tweeting in their thousands on social media insisting the results be declared and the recruitment processes be resumed.

“Despite having appeared for examinations in 2018, we are still awaiting the result. I would urge the government not to advertise for recruitment if it doesn’t wish to give jobs, and refrain from ensnaring the youth under false hopes of a job,” Saumya Gupta, an SSC candidate, based in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, told Gaon Connection.

“I am losing all hope of the results of the recruitment examinations ever coming out,” said another SSC candidate, who did not wish to be named.  “We fill the forms, give the examination and wait endlessly while the process stops due to some glitch, and sometimes the result is not declared. No official or minister wants to answer our queries regarding this,” he complained.

More than 42,000 students had appeared for the SSC CGL 2018 examination and they are still awaiting the tier three results. Candidates who successfully completed the SSC CGL 2017 are also still waiting for their appointment. Their results were declared 10 months ago.

This is not all. More than one lakh candidates appeared for SSC’s CHSL 2018 (Staff Selection Commission Combined Higher Secondary Level) and MTS (Multi Tasking) 2019 examinations. The results of the tier II  exams are pending since September and November 2019, respectively.

Results and recruitments are awaited for SSC CGL 2018, SSC CHSL 2018, SSC MTS 2019, Railway NTPC 2019, Railway Group D 2019, Bihar STET 2019, Bihar Junior Engineer (JE), VDO and recruitments of Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Selection Service Commission (UPSSSC) and recruitments by the Gujarat government (see table for more details).

“Many of the parents of the candidates have either lost their jobs or have substantially reduced incomes. People are financially and mentally disturbed and the pending recruitments are further deepening our distress,” lamented Kumar.
