India reports 186,000 new COVID cases, lowest in 44 days

India has reported a dip in active cases, fresh infections, and daily deaths. The recoveries have surpassed infections by a huge margin.

With 186,364 cases, India has reported a decline in the daily coronavirus infections yesterday, the lowest daily count since April 13, when 185,295 cases were recorded. This is the lowest number of new cases recorded in India in 44 days.

The deaths due to the virus have also seen a drop with 3,660 people succumbing to the disease yesterday on May 27, as compared to 3,847 deaths on May 26. This takes the total death toll in the country to 318,895.

Over 250,000 recoveries were reported in the country yesterday. The daily recoveries have surpassed fresh infections by a huge margin.

Yesterday, the highest daily spike was reported in Tamil Nadu with 33,361 fresh COVID cases, followed by Karnataka (24,214), Kerala (24,166), Maharashtra (21,273), and Andhra Pradesh (16,167). Uttar Pradesh, the country’s most populous state has recorded 3,181 new cases. Only 1,072 new infections were reported in the national capital, Delhi.

The total active caseload in the country stands at 2,343,152. It is a drop of nearly 77,000 compared to May 27 when the active caseload was 2,419,907. As per the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 2,070,508 samples were tested yesterday.

Over 2.9 million vaccine doses were administered in the country yesterday taking the cumulative count of vaccination to 205 million.

Meanwhile yesterday, the Chhattisgarh government declared half of its 20,000 villages as COVID19-free.
