India may witness the third COVID19 wave next month: Report

A report published by SBI Research claims that the COVID19’s third wave is likely to hit the country next month in August and it will peak in September.

India may witness the third COVID19 wave from next month i.e August and it is expected that the wave will peak in September. The report titled ‘COVID-19: The race to finishing line’ prepared by State Bank of India (SBI) Research was released today July 5.

“India has achieved its second wave peak on 7 May’21 and going by the current data, India can experience cases around 10,000 somewhere around the 2nd week of July. However, the cases can start rising by the second fortnight of August,” reads the report.

The report also highlighted that the global data shows that on average, third wave peak cases are around 1.7 times the peak cases at the time of second-wave.

In another report, SBI estimated that the average duration of the third wave for top countries is 98 days and that of the second wave is 108 days.

The report also took note of the low vaccination percentage of India. “Overall, India has fully vaccinated 4.6% of its population, apart from 20.8% having received one dose. This is still lower than other countries including the US, the UK, Israel, Spain, France among others,” it warned.

India has so far vaccinated 352 million people. It administered 1,481,583 doses yesterday on July 4.

Meanwhile, the country reported 39,796 daily coronavirus infections and 723 daily deaths today. The highest daily cases were reported in Kerala (12,100). This data was shared by the health ministry.
