Union Minister of Tribal Affairs Arjun Munda laid foundation stone for the construction of five Eklavya Residential Model Schools (EMRS) in three districts of Jharkhand on July 3 and July 4. EMRS is the Central government’s initiative of setting up model residential schools for tribal communities across the country.

These schools are to be equipped with facilities for honing the talent of the students in the archery sport.

On July 3, the first foundation stone of such a school was laid by the Union Minister in Rajnagar block at Seraikela Kharsawan district, and at Hatgamharia and Majhgaon blocks of West Singhbhum district.

The next day on July 4, the foundation stone for construction of two such schools was also laid at Gurbandha and Dhalbhumgarh blocks of East Singhbhum.

“This is a very important scheme for tribal areas, in which 480 students will study in each school. Full attention will be given to quality education. All facilities will be provided to the students,” Munda was quoted as saying in a press statement issued by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.

The EMRS scheme was started in the year 1997-98 to impart quality education to children from the Scheduled Tribe (ST) communities in remote areas. The schools focus not only on academic education but also on the all-round development of the students.
