COVID19: Around 40 doctors of Lucknow’s King George’s Medical University test positive

Many of the COVID19 infected medical practitioners in Lucknow had already been vaccinated. The Central government has decided to include vaccination information in the form used for testing of COVID19 patients.

Uttar Pradesh recorded 5,895 new COVID19 cases on April 7, taking the total active caseload to 27,509.

While the number of cases continue to rise in the second wave of COVID19 across the country, as many as 40 doctors at the King George’s Medical University (KGMU), a medical institute in Lucknow, have tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

Media reports stated that many of the infected medical practitioners had been vaccinated (both doses) and the list of infected doctors also includes the university’s vice chancellor Vipin Puri. COVID19 test reports of many other doctors  from the institute are awaited.

Media  reports state that infected doctors include 20 from the general surgery department, nine from the urology department and three from the department of medicine.

Prominent citizens from the city that recently succumbed to COVID19, include professor Brajesh Shukla of the Lucknow University, chief pharmacist of police lines, RK Chaudhary and veteran politician Jagdambika Pal.

Also, the country registered 115,736 new cases of the novel coronavirus on Tuesday, the highest so far. Of the total, Maharashtra reported 55,469 cases while Chhattisgarh scaled a new peak of 9,921 cases. Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi reported more than 5,000 cases each.

India’s caseload now stands at 12,801,785, of which 843,473 are active cases and 11792,135 people have recovered from the virus.

At least 630 deaths were reported on Tuesday, taking the country’s toll to 166,177.
