Parliament Monsoon Session: 414.6 million Covishield and Covaxin doses supplied between Jan 2021 and July 16, informs health ministry

From January 2021 to July 16 this year, 360.1 million doses of Covishield have been supplied by Serum Institute and 54.5 million doses of Covaxin have been supplied by Bharat Biotech.

Till July 14, a total of 3.3 million doses of Sputnik V have been imported.

The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare told Rajya Sabha during the monsoon session of the Parliament today, on July 20, that from January 2021 to July 16 this year, 360.1 million doses of Covishield have been supplied by M/s Serum Institute of India and 54.5 million doses of Covaxin have been supplied by M/s Bharat Biotech International Limited for the National COVID Vaccination Programme of India.

Apart from these, till July 14, a total of 3.3 million doses of Sputnik V (3 million 1st Component and 0.3 million 2nd component) have been imported.

This information was shared by Minister of State for Health Bharati Praveen Pawar in response to a question raised by Mallikarjun Kharge.

The minister also informed that the current average monthly capacity of production of Covishield by the Serum Institute is 110 million doses and of Covaxin by M/s Bharat Biotech International Limited is 25 million doses. This monthly vaccine production capacity of Covishield is planned to be increased from 110 million to more than 120 million doses per month.

Similarly, the production capacity of Covaxin is planned to be increase from 25 million doses per month to 58 million doses per month.

The minister also informed that “the procurement process of COVID-19 vaccines has adequate in-built mechanisms of financial penalty in case of delay in delivery of vaccines by the manufacturers.”
