While transferring the money directly to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries, CM Adityanath said, “Now the money is transferred through DBT (direct benefit transfer) which helps in crackdown on corruption and middlemen in the system and earlier, when the money was shared without DBT, out of Rs 100 only Rs 15 was received by the beneficiary.”

The beneficiaries who participated in the virtual event thanked the chief minister for hassle free transfer of government money into their accounts.

“We did not need to give bribe-recommendation anywhere,” one of the beneficiaries of the scheme said.

In the last 4.5 years, the state Government has provided over 40 lakh houses under PMAY-G (Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Grameen)

CM Adityanath said that before 2017, the state was nowhere in PM Awas Yojana, or Svanidhi Yojana but as soon as his government came to power, Uttar Pradesh clinched the first position in providing roofs to residents of the state under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).

PMAY which was launched in June 2015 by the central government aims to provide affordable pucca houses with water facility, sanitation and electricity supply round-the-clock.

The scheme originally was meant to cover people in the EWS (annual income not exceeding Rs 3 lakh) and LIG (annual income not exceeding Rs 6 lakh) sections, but now covers the mid-income group (MIG) as well. MIG refers to an annual income between Rs 600,000 to Rs 120,000 per annum.
