The fisheries department in Uttar Pradesh has launched an app — UP Fish Farmer’s. According to the app details on Google Play Store, it will “enable the department in registering the fisherman involved in fisheries activities like fish sale, fish hunting, fish farming and other fisheries activities to provide scheme-wise benefits”.

The app was launched recently by Lakshmi Narayan Chaudhary, the state’s minister for livestock, fisheries and milk development. Incidentally, on November 21, Matsya Diwas, Uttar Pradesh received the award for best fish producer.

The app will provide fish farmers information such as when to undertake fishing activity and what are the new schemes for fish farming. The app will also provide information about fish farmers credit cards, a free accident insurance scheme and other welfare schemes provided to fishers by the Government of India.

Harendra Prasad, deputy director, department of fisheries, Uttar Pradesh, told Gaon Connection that “through this app, fish farmers as well as everyone associated with pisciculture will be linked to various schemes of the department. They will also be regularly updated about every government scheme”.

Fishers have to register on the app with name, date of birth and address, and provide an Aadhaar number and bank account number, among other things.
