The Uttar Pradesh government stated today on August 10, that the training sessions to enable sugarcane farmers make use of technology have been instrumental in increasing the production of sugarcane in the state which was recorded as 81.5 tonnes for the year 2020-21.

As per a press statement issued by the office of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, as many as 66,963 farmers have been trained to ‘apply modern techniques and advanced technology in sugarcane production’ by the Sugarcane Farmers’ Institute and this has helped in increasing the yield and incomes of the farmers.

“Over 44.40 lakh (4.4 million) farmers of the state have downloaded the e-Ganna App where they are getting the benefit of being directly connected to the Uttar Pradesh Sugarcane Department. This has freed the farmers from the presence of middlemen. Apart from this, the farmers are getting aware of all the required information through their mobiles,” the official statement claimed.

It also informed that there have been 81.57 crore (815.7 million) hits on the mobile phone application of the Sugar Industry & Cane Development Department.

“At the same time, as many as 5.1 crore (51 million) hits have been made on the website of Smart Sugarcane Farmer (Smart Ganna Kisan). These figures are testimony to the fact that the efforts of the state government have made the farmers of UP tech-savvy,” the press statement stated.
