Uttar Pradesh: CM Adityanath approves Rs 75 billion for solar projects with 1,535 MW capacity

In a bid to diversify the energy sector in the state, Uttar Pradesh govt, as part of its new solar policy, has allocated funds worth Rs 7,500 crores for solar power projects with 1,535 megawatts capacity.

“Under the new solar policy, projects worth Rs 1535 MW are underway even as there are 24 solar power projects of 420 MW capacity are already functional,” the statement read.

With an aim to ensure that the state becomes self-reliant in terms of its energy needs and utilise alternative sources of power generation, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government has approved funds amounting to Rs 75 billion. The funds will be dedicated to set up solar projects that are expected to generate 1,535 megawatts of power.

“Under the new solar policy, projects of capacity 1535 MW are underway even as there are 24 solar power projects of 420 MW capacity are already functional,” the statement read. 

Also, in order to give a boost to the solar power sector , the state government has given an 100% exemption in stamp duty on solar power unit installation under its Solar energy policy. 

The spokesperson of the policy was quoted as saying in the statement that the ‘Energy Conservation Building Code 2018’ has been implemented to save energy in commercial buildings. 

“Poor, rural families have been provided solar lights by installing 1.80 lakh solar power pack plants in their homes. So far, 3400 solar RO water plants  have been installed in primary schools of the state,” the press statement informed. 

The statement also claimed that as many as 225 MW solar rooftops have been installed in the state. “Under the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Solar Street Light Scheme, 25,304 solar street lights have been installed in rural markets while 13,791 Solar Street Lights are installed in the selected revenue villages under the Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Rural Development Scheme,” it added.
