‘90% diarrhoea deaths in India due to lack of safe drinking water and basic sanitation facilities’

The National Faecal Sludge and Septage Management (NFSSM) Alliance pointed out that 90 per cent of all deaths from diarrhoea in India, particularly in children, are caused due to lack of access to clean drinking water and basic sanitation services. Keedi Ram owned 12 bigha of land. But floods in the Ghaghra river have made him landless.

At least 644 villages in 16 districts of Uttar Pradesh are facing floods with about 300 villages completely marooned. Ghaghra river is flowing above its danger level, and has caused havoc in Sitapur and Barabanki districts where villagers have lost both their homes and farmlands. Gaon Connection’s ground report.

Open dumping and burning of mixed biomedical waste raises a stink in Sitapur
