Consider suspending Uttar Pradesh elections as COVID19 cases rising: Allahabad HC judge to PM Modi

The judge made the remark after realising that the physical distancing norms are not being followed in the Court. Justice Yadav was hearing a bail plea while noticing that there are 400 cases are listed for the day apart from the regular cases.

The judge also praised PM Modi for launching a massive vaccination campaign.

While praising the efforts of the Union government for its COVID19 vaccination campaign, a judge from the Allahabad High Court has requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to consider postponing the upcoming assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh as Omicron cases continue to rise.

“…order the political parties to do their campaign and publicity not by mobilizing the crowd in the rally and meeting, but through the medium of Doordarshan, newspapers and if possible, postpone the elections scheduled to be held in February for a month or two because if life would remain, then election rallies, meetings will continue to happen,” Justice Shekhar Yadav was quoted on December 23.

The judge made these remarks after realising that the physical distancing norms are not being followed in the Court. Justice Yadav was hearing a bail plea while noticing that there are 400 cases are listed for the day apart from the regular cases.

Due to the large number of cases lined up in the court, a large number of advocates had gathered following which the judge pointed out that the COVID-appropriate behaviour is not being followed.

He also praised PM Modi for launching a massive vaccination campaign.

Praising the PM, Justice Yadav said: “Our honourable Prime Minister has begun an exercise for Corona-free vaccination in a country with such a huge population. This is praiseworthy and the court praises it. We request the honourable Prime Minister to take steps and, in view of the frightening situation, consider stopping and postponing rallies and elections… jaan hai toh jahan hai.” (as long as we are alive, we have the world with us).
