Uttar Pradesh gears up for double whammy of health challenges as upcoming rainy season adds to COVID woes

UP CM Yogi Adityanath has issued a set of instructions to combatn the health challenges posed by a double whammy of water-borne diseases in the upcoming monsoon season as well as the COVID19 which is still very much significant. More details here.

It is learnt that the instructions have been made to ensure 'zero wastage' of COVID19 vaccine.

With the monsoon lurking around the corner, the health challenges for the Uttar Pradesh government are mounting even as COVID19 continues to pose a serious problem for the administration.

A press statement issued by the state government informed that the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath-led government has issued directions to the officials, asking them to ensure sanitation and fogging drives regularly to curb the threat of water-borne diseases during the upcoming rainy season

“The Yogi Government is also preparing itself to deal with diseases like encephalities and dengue that occur mainly during rainy season due to contamination of water and mosquitoes especially in the Purvanchal area of UP,” the press statement mentioned.

It is also learnt that the instructions have been made to ensure ‘zero wastage’ of COVID19 vaccine.

“The Government is also preparing a plan to vaccinate government employees, bank workers and teachers, who are more prone to infection due to the nature of their works,” the statement added.

Order issued for setting up ‘post-COVID’ centres

The Adityanath government has instructed the officials to set up ‘post-COVID’ centres to address a variety of physical and mental issues arising as an aftermath of COVID19 infection in patients.

“The number of such patients is quite high in UP. The centres will have a dedicated post Covid ward while the recovered patients will be provided with medicines and food for free as well,” it is stated.

Meanwhile, the state recorded less than 4,000 new cases for the fourth consecutive day on May 27.

Uttar Pradesh witnessed its lowest single-day COVID19 infection count during the second wave reported as 3,278 new cases were recorded yesterday. Its highest single-day jump was pegged at 38,055 cases on April 24.

Also, a total of 188 deaths were also reported yesterday, taking the state’s overall fatalities to 19,899.
